Dear visitor of parental-alienation.info,
Dear visitor of parental-alienation.info,
No doubt you will have heard of the tragic events that have happened
in the life of Natasha Kampusch from Austria. It has made the headlines
across Europe and around the globe. She was abducted and kept in
a prison in an underground cell without natural light and air being
pumped into her enclosure. She escaped after eight years captivity
and it would be expected that she would have been reunited with
her family immediately after her escape. Sadly this did not happen.
Natasha appears to suffer from the "Stockholm Syndrome"
as coined in 1973 by Nils Bejerot, a psychiatrist, while working
for the police. At the time it occurred that there was a bank robbery
and four bank clerks were taken hostage by an armed robber who threatened
to kill them. To the surprise of the police, the hostages stated
that they had no wish to be rescued indicating that they felt sympathy
for their captor.
Reports about the event can be found across the internet in various
newspapers. Here are a few links to Natasha's escape and her development
of the Stockholm Syndrome:
The Times (UK): "After
eight years in a cellar, Natascha avoids her parents"
August 28, 2006
The New York Times (USA): "Austrian
Girl's Lawyer "Devastated" by Cell" September
1, 2006
The Cape Times (South Africa): "Mother
distraught as teenager held for eight years refuses to see her"
August 28, 2006
The Clica Brasilia (Brasil): "Austríaca
diz ter se recusado a chamar seqüestrador de mestre"
August 28, 2006
The Mainichi Interactive (Japan): "Police
find young woman allegedly held prisoner for more than 8 years"
August 24, 2006
The Sydney Morning Herald (Australia): "Suspected
kidnapper kills himself" August 24, 2006
Thet New Zealand Herald (New Zealand): "Captors
colleague says he met 'happy' Australian girl" August
31, 2006
Sadly there appears to be a considerable similarity between parental
alienation and the Stockholm Syndrome. The alienator in the case
of the Stockholm Syndrome also needs to extinguish any desire in
the victim’s past, seeking to demonstrate any allegiance to
anyone other than the powerful captor of that individual.
My latest article deals with these issues and is now available
on my website: www.parental-alienation.info. Please select article
number 46: "The
comparison of parental alienation to the 'Stockholm syndrome'”
My very best wishes to you now and in the future.
